A few months ago, we had the opportunity to speak with @davis.365 from @citaradio901fm on his program Family Friday: Looking at Finances. This interview was driven by our own debt-free journey but the questions were tailored to assist persons who are interested in getting their finances in order. Davidson touched on the hard questions that others avoid, or are afraid to ask. I absolutely loved it!!
One question in particular resonated with me and it has been on my mind since then. It was to the effect of ‘what would we say to persons who would like to get started or need help but are ashamed or embarrassed of their financial position?’ I am not sure how I answered this question during the interview (my nerves 😅 I be scared) but I came across this quote and it instantly clicked 💡
The past is a place of reference, not a place of residence.
“You are not alone. You are not the first or the last person to have debt, whether it be a little or a large sum ….. whether it was for frivolous purposes or good reason. What matters is that you are now aware that being financially stable / responsible is a thing that can be done. Your past is exactly that … your past. Now that you know better, you do better! If you are interested in getting started, do not be afraid to ask questions and learn. 6 months from now, you should be able to do a self checkup and see improvements in yourself.
Let growth and greatness be your place of residence.
